"At dawn, the sound of the ocean would wake me from my
slumber, the wind riding its swelling waves, echoing all the way to the house. Then
began the chorus of the songs of dozens of little birds, gentle inhabitants of the
enchanted garden, joining in a single melody. In a song of Nature."

About The Author
Antonella Bonomi is a pioneer and entrepreneur who has dedicated her life to blending
luxury hospitality with sustainability in one of the world’s most iconic wilderness
areas, the Chyulu Hills, in Kenya.
Born and raised in Italy, Antonella studied law and briefly
practiced before immersing herself in her first passion: the family wine business. Her
early career in the wine industry instilled in her a deep appreciation for heritage,
craftsmanship, and the natural environment—values that would later define her life’s
work.
Falling in love with Luca, her husband with whom she has three children, meant falling
in love with Kenya, where they moved together over 30 years ago. There she embarked on
an extraordinary journey to create a harmonious balance between tourism, Maasai culture,
and environmental preservation.
Together, Luca and
Antonella co-founded Campi ya Kanzi and
Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Kanzi is one of Africa’s first eco-lodges powered
entirely by renewable energy and recognized globally for its regenerative tourism model.
Nestled in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, the lodge represents Antonella’s unwavering
commitment to protecting the environment while uplifting the local Maasai community.
Antonella’s journey has been one of bold choices and
transformative experiences, from navigating the challenges of building a lodge in the
remote Chyulu Hills to raising three children in the bush and forming lifelong
friendships with the Maasai.
Antonella’s
memoirs weave together her personal story with the
beauty, complexity, and spiritual depth of life in the African wilderness,
reflecting
the transformative journey shaped by her bold choices.
Through her words, she shares the
triumphs and challenges of building a life rooted in purpose, love, and legacy. When
not managing her lodges, Antonella
enjoys exploring new
destinations and spending time with her family.
Her memoirs are a testament to the
power of love, dreams, determination, and
the enduring connection between people and the land.
